"The GMIX experience gave me unparalleled insight into managing in a completely foreign professional and cultural setting. It was invaluable to illuminating some of the challenges and truly unique rewards to global business. I highly recommend the experience to anyone and everyone interested in pushing their personal and professional boundaries in a safe and rewarding setting."
Andrew Tam, MBA 2009
"Working with GMIX students was a challenging experience for all those who participated in the Project. Their ability to raise key questions in relation to the work been done and their personal skills in sustaining their points of view when controversy arose is a reflection of the style of the GSB program. Overall, a worthwhile "WIN–WIN" experience."

Global Management Immersion Experience (GMIX)
The Global Management Immersion Experience (GMIX) encourages MBA students to gain international work experience by spending part of their summer in corporate, government, or NGO-sponsored environments in unfamiliar regions outside the United States.
From 1997 and the program's beginnings in China, GMIX has expanded to include opportunities in 41 countries in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and the South Pacific. In 2009, 53 organizations in 27 countries around the world participated in the GMIX program. These organizations hosted 77 student projects ranging from strategic planning to market analysis to microfinance survey work.
A typical GMIX is structured as a supplement to a student's summer internship. Students usually spend 8 to 10 weeks with a summer employer and then a minimum of four weeks working on a GMIX project. Following the GMIX, students share their experiences with the GSB community and have the option to complete a research paper on an international business topic related to their experience for two academic credits.
Students work in a variety of industries including consumer products, international development, energy, finance, media and entertainment, healthcare, and technology. Organization sponsors include start-ups, joint ventures, and global companies.

Sponsor Information
For sponsoring organizations, GMIX is an effective way to engage MBAs in critical projects that may not otherwise be undertaken due to staffing constraints. In a short period of time, our students are able to deliver on projects such as evaluating new market opportunities or making recommendations on streamlining internal processes.
GMIX sponsors are the foundation of the GMIX program, as they provide students with quality work experiences in a cultural context that is new to the student. Therefore, it is important that all potential GMIX sponsors familiarize themselves with the details of the GMIX program by way of reviewing the GMIX 2010 Sponsor Guide
.
GMIX sponsors are asked to provide a well-defined GMIX project with clear expectations and deliverables. In addition, sponsors must commit to providing the following:
| For-profit GMIX Sponsors | NGO and Nonprofit GMIX Sponsors |
|
|---|---|---|
| Housing*: for the duration of the GMIX | Required | Required |
| Living Allowance: | Required | Requested |
| Roundtrip Airfare | Requested | Requested |
| Work Permits/Visa Assistance** | Required | Required |
* Example: international standard hotel, serviced apartment, or comfortable accommodation relative to the location of the GMIX
** The GMIX organization should cover the costs and guide students through the permit/visa application process as GMIX is an academic program and students are not compensated for their work beyond the minimum requirements, most students enter the country on tourist visas.
To post a GMIX opportunity, follow the detailed instructions found in the GMIX 2010 Sponsor Guide
. If you have further questions regarding GMIX sponsorship, please contact Katherine Robinson, Assistant Director in the Global Management Program at sponsor_gmix@gsb.stanford.edu.
