Israel Vainboim, MBA '69
Retired Chairman
Unibanco Holdings S.A.
Israel Vainboim is retired chairman of Unibanco Holdings S.A., a large financial conglomerate in Brazil that merged with Itau S.A. at the end of 2008 to form Itau Unibanco Holding S.A., Brazil’s largest private financial institution. He currently serves on the board of directors of the new bank.
Mr. Vainboim joined the Unibanco Group after graduating from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1969.
Mr. Vainboim is non-executive chairman of Usiminas, the largest flat steel manufacturer in Brazil, and sits on the boards of directors of Embraer (airplanes) and Ioschpe Maxion (auto parts). He also is a member of various advisory boards in companies in Brazil and abroad. He is a board member of the Albert Einstein Hospital, the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, and Casa de Cultura de Israel. He is chairman of the board of the Brasil-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Vainboim has developed his professional career in Brazil and in the city of São Paulo, where he lives while spending a large amount of time in New York City and in travels around the world.
Mr. Vainboim has three adult children.
