Emily Maddox Liggett, MS/MBA ’84

Emily Liggett is the CEO of NovaTorque, a venture-backed company in Fremont, California, commercializing high-efficiency electric motors. An engineer by training, Ms Liggett’s career has been in technology, both in established and start-up companies.

Ms. Liggett joined DuPont after receiving a chemical engineering degree from Purdue University, where she enjoyed research, manufacturing, strategic planning, and customer technical support. She attended Stanford, earning an MSMSE and an MBA.

After graduate school, Ms. Liggett joined Raychem, a high-growth materials science company, completing assignments in sales and marketing, operations, and general management, including GM of Raychem Telecommunications in North Carolina and CEO of Elo TouchSystems. Ms. Liggett has served as CEO of Capstone Turbine (NASDAQ: CPST) in Chatsworth, California, and CEO of Apexon, a supply chain analytics software company, before joining NovaTorque in 2009.

Ms. Liggett has traveled extensively, living in Switzerland, Australia, and Belgium.

She has served on the board of directors of TouchPanel Systems in Tokyo; Textronics Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware; Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ: IMMR) in San Jose, California; and MTS Systems (NASDAQ: MTSI) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as several nonprofit boards.

Ms. Liggett married her college sweetheart, David (another Indiana farm kid), Stanford MBA ’83. He teaches science in East Palo Alto, and they both are deeply involved with youth. They have four adult children.
