John A. Svoboda, MBA '83

Svoboda Capital Partners LLC
John Svoboda is cofounder of Svoboda Capital Partners (SC), a Chicago-based private equity firm that invests in business services, value-added distribution, and consumer products companies. Prior to forming SC, Mr. Svoboda was a senior partner in the corporate finance department at William Blair & Company through 1997, when he left to form SC.
Mr. Svoboda serves on the boards of several private companies, including the Glover Park Group, Cape Electrical Supply, Primo’s Hunting, and GPA Holdings. He serves as a trustee of the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Otho S.A.. Sprague Memorial Institute, and the Marwen Foundation, and as a life trustee of the Francis W. Parker School. He also serves on the advisory board of the Chicago Fire professional soccer club.
Mr. Svoboda graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1979 and received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1983. He lives with his wife, Jill, and children, Sam, Adam, and Lucy, in the DePaul area of Chicago.
