Dear Ms. Frisch:

I am writing to request permission to reproduce the following material from your publication:

Jane Wiles
Title: "People and XYZ”
Date: April 1999 issue
Publication: The New Yorker Magazine
Page: 37 (copy enclosed).

I would like to incorporate the article as an exhibit in a business case study, which I am writing with Professor John Jones at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Case Title: XYZ Corporation
Publisher: Stanford Graduate School of Business
Distributor:  Stanford Graduate School of Business
Approximate number of pages:  20

We cannot at this time determine the circulation of the case, but it is intended for use within Master of Business Administration and executive education programs. Should Stanford faculty decide to integrate this case into their curriculum, the case would be likely to be reproduced a maximum of 1000 times in a year at Stanford. In addition, the case could be requested through Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP) and by other institutions. Stanford cases have been requested between 1 and 4600 times per year from HBSP and are usually in circulation for about five years. The business case study may also be distributed electronically through the World Wide Web.

Professor Jones will give full credit to the author and publisher as the source. f you wish, please designate the format you prefer for the credit line.

If there is a permission fee, please send me a fax or email setting forth the amount of the permission fee.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Gildea
