What are video supplements and videocases?
Videocases and video supplements enhance and extend the impact of teaching based on the case method. Video provides a richer and often more dramatic portrayal of management situations than do text-based materials. It can also foster deeper insights and a more energetic discussion.
A video supplement is a video that can be used in conjunction with a written case to highlight certain points or aspects covered in the written case. Video supplements include tapes of case protagonists addressing a class, coverage of case protagonists on the job, footage from a factory or production unit, or clips of television commercials. They are intended only to be used with a written case, not standalone.
A video case is a teaching tool that can be used in a similar fashion to a written case. Different than a video supplement, a video case is developed and produced to either be used standalone or to be taught in conjunction with an accompanying written case. A video case may include teaching notes to guide an instructor as well as discussion questions.
