General Information for Entrepreneurs

  • The Jackson Library has produced an overview of links, resources and publications for entrepreneurs, specifically around class S353. Also available is the Library's collection of Entrepreneurship websites.
  • The Kauffman Foundation promotes entrepreneurial success at all levels, from elementary school students to high-growth entrepreneurs. The Foundation's entrepreneurship Web site is devoted to this topic and provides more information about programs and resources in this arena.
  • The Center for Business Planning offers business planning resources, business planning tools, as well as examples of business plans).
  • The Free Management Library provides an integrated library for nonprofits and for-profits.
  • Inc.com guides contain resources, handpicked by Inc.com editors, on specific business-management issues.
  • Brint.com is a business technology knowledge portal and global community network.
  • Startup Journal from the Wall Street Journal Center for Entrepreneurs provides articles and resources on market research, financing, hiring, and management of the startup enterprise.
  • Basic guide to Social Entrepreneurship, based on the TV series "The New Heroes" on PBS.
  • Willitfly provides modules for you to test your business knowledge and fill the gaps.
  • iinnovate offers a number of podcast interviews on Entrepreneurship topics, including conversations with Robert Joss, Dean of Stanford GSB and Professor Garth Saloner, co-director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, as well as John Morgridge, former President, CEO and Chairman of Cisco Systems.
  • CompanyCrafters offers a free on-line dictionary of essential start-up business terms.
  • Columbia Business School's RISE project offers a searchable directory of Social Entrepreneurs.

General Information targeted for Women Entrepreneurs

  • SBA Office of Women's Business Ownership promotes the growth of women-owned businesses through programs that address business training and technical assistance, and provide access to credit and capital, federal contracts, and international trade opportunities.
  • Forum for Women Entrepreneurs & Executives (FWE&E)is the exclusive and highly-valued professional, educational and social organization for women entrepreneurs and executives and their eco-system partners who are actively engaged in high-tech, high-growth companies. The organization was founded by two GSB alumni, Denise Brosseau and  Jennifer Rosen.
  • Astia's mission is to foster the full participation and leadership of women in entrepreneurship and as accelerators of high growth businesses. They accelerate the funding and growth of companies through three exclusive programs that are designed for start-ups at all stages. These programs are supported by over 350 members of Astia’s Advisor Network that includes more than 70 former and current CEOs and 80 investors.
  • Women in Technology International (WITI) has a mission to empower women worldwide to achieve unimagined possibilities and transformations through technology, leadership and economic prosperity
  • Alliance of Technology and Women (ATW) supports women and men worldwide who share the common interests of empowering women in technology, increasing the number of women in executive roles and encouraging women and girls to enter technology fields.
  • C200 The Committee of 200 is the professional organization of preeminent women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders. The organization capitalizes on the power, success and influence of businesswomen in the global economy.
  • Cubes and Crayons offers office space together with kid space. They have a program of workshops and events.

Technical Information

  • SRI International is an independent, nonprofit research institute conducting contract research and development for government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations, and other organizations. SRI also brings its innovations to the marketplace by licensing its technologies and creating new ventures.
  • The SBA•Cisco Systems•San Jose Entrepreneur Center provides entrepreneurs with a full range of support services in one convenient location. The services include, financial programs, technical assistance, training, technology, procurement, and international trade.
  • IBM Research Labs work in all areas of information technology, from physics and cognitive science to leading-edge application research. Their work is often done in concert with colleagues in academic and government research centers, as well as "in the marketplace" with customers.
  • Bay Area Bioscience Center brings together northern California's bioscience community, promote its culture and important biology-based discoveries, proactively identify and address members' needs, and forge a potent, savvy constituency.
  • Tech Startup Connection helps their members create and grow new computer based technology businesses.

  • Lexis-Nexis Small Business Service provides legal, news, public records, and business information, including tax and regulatory publications.
  • Find Law for Business offers answers to questions about choosing the right legal structure for your business venture, hiring employees, or safety in the workplace.

  • The PriceWaterHouseCoopers Money Tree Survey is a quarterly study of venture capital investment activity in the United States. The survey offers information on emerging companies that receive financing and the venture capital firms that provide it.
  • Silicon Valley Venture Capital Survey combines breaking world-wide news coverage with cutting edge technology industry analysis from the Silicon Valley.
  • AVCE and the accompanying magazine American Venture have been pioneers in helping technology start-ups receive funding since the early 90's.
  • The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) is the trade association that represents the venture capital industry. NVCA's mission is to foster the understanding of the importance of venture capital to the vitality of the U.S. and global economies; to stimulate the flow of equity capital to emerging growth companies by representing the public policy interests of the venture capital and private equity communities at all levels of government; to maintain high professional industry standards; facilitate networking opportunities; and to provide research data and professional development for its members.
  • Venturewire.com offers a daily e-mail that provides information on the previous day's venture financings.
  • VC Task Force provides a system of services including: business, legal and financial programs that provide real-time, strategic and tactical information addressing imminent concerns of venture capitalists and portfolio companies.
  • AngelDeals.com provides networking and information for Entrepreneurs seeking funding.
  • 3rd Wave is an educational center for the advancement of high-tech entrepreneurs focusing on the development of professional and entrepreneurial skills connecting them to venture capital.
  • Research from the Small Business Administration on small business lending and the factors affecting it.
  • goBIGnetwork is an on-line marketplace that connects the startup and small business community and may be helpful in identifying investors.

  • The Stanford Graduate School of Business Career Management Center offers a broad range of expertise, services, programs and resources to assist students with their career development and job searches. These resources include: career advising, career strategy workshops, resume reviews, mock interviews, career fairs and on campus recruiting. GSB students may also search for Experiential Projects in organizations which interest them.
  • TradeVibes provides a search tool for discovering start ups which interest you.

National and Community Support Organizations

  • The Enterprise Network (TEN) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting new business and economic development in the greater Silicon Valley. As a venture accelerator, resource center and incubator for high-tech startups and early stage companies, TEN helps translate lab research into consumer products and provides an infrastructure and network to support entrepreneurs in realizing their objectives.
  • The National Business Incubation Associationprovides helpful tools and information on the business incubation industry, as well as information on member incubators and principals of business incubation.
  • The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) is a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration. It is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide.
  • Silicon Valley SCORE Chapter provides seminars, workshops, free individual counseling, and other services for both existing small businesses and start-ups in Santa Clara County of California.
  • Silicon Valley Small Business Development Center offers numerous services to small business. These services include free expert consulting services, concentrated training, information resources, multiple locations and various seminars.
  • The United States Small Business Association offers start-up tools, checklists and resources, including, business start-up tools, financing start-up tools, state/local start-up help, federal start-up resources, and walk-in assistance centers.
  • The National Dialogue on Entrepreneurship was created to focus public policy on the role of entrepreneurship in the national economy and to articulate policies that will foster its continued growth. The NDE is a resource for anyone interested in entrepreneurship and public policy.
  • The Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) is a global community of business owners, all of whom run companies that exceed $1M (US) in revenue..
  • The Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) is the largest and fastest growing nonprofit association in Northern California dedicated exclusively to helping early stage entrepreneurs across all technology sectors build successful companies.
  • The Entrepreneur Center in San Jose aims to provide entrepreneurs with a full range of support services in one location. Their resources include training and counseling.
  • IBDNetwork is built on the belief that people and the quality of their relationships determine the success of a particular corporation. We provide an atmosphere that fosters relationships and provide forums that inspire new partnerships.
