eBay's Globalization Strategy

Matt Bannick was Vice President of International at eBay, the world's largest online auction company. Since 2000, he had spearheaded international growth, working towards eBay's goal of a presence in 25 countries by 2005. In 2001, the company acquired iBazar, a leading European online auction with a Brazilian presence as well. eBay had already considered developing a presence in Latin America and this opportunity prompted an immediate decision. Bannick was scheduled to present his decision for the next steps with iBazar to CEO Meg Whitman. Bannick must decide whether or not to maintain iBazar's presence in Latin America; if the company chooses to maintain the presence, should it "hold" or grow - through acquisition or organic growth?
