Bringing a business perspective on leadership to the public sector:
Working with other groups at the business school, the Center sponsored a week of events (March 4-7) with government leaders that have business backgrounds, to discuss leadership challenges in the public sector at the local, national and international level.
Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco, spoke about how many of the traits that made him successful as an entrepreneur have also helped him bring a fresh perspective to government. At the same time, he cautioned that the sectors operate by different rules, which must be appreciated by anybody entering the public sphere. View video
Vicente Fox, Former President of Mexico, described the challenges facing leaders in all the countries of the Americas, and encouraged the audience to promote stronger ties between the U.S. and its southern neighbors. View video
Henry "Hank" Paulson, U.S. Treasury Secretary, spoke off the record to GSB students about what it takes to be successful, whether in government or in business.

View from the Top: About the Series | View Recent Speakers
The Dean's speaker series, View from the Top, brings senior leaders from business, government and society to talk about the lessons they've learned as leaders. Run by and for students, the series provides a chance to think about leadership styles and vision, as well as what it means to be successful in the long term.
