Spotlight
Stanford Business Reporter
Owned and operated by the students of the GSB, The Reporter has been a tradition for over a half-century. It is the principal source of GSB news and information for the student and alumni communities.
The student-run editorial staff publishes both a biweekly print journal, The Reporter, and a daily online blog, AtTheBirds.com. News and opinions are solicited from all members of the GSB community, including MBA, Ph.D. and Sloan Executive students, as well as faculty, staff, administration, and alumni.
The Reporter combines classic reporting, opinion, humor, and community event recaps in a format faithful to the publication’s long history. It is also a great way to advertise your organization's presence to the GSB Community. Send an email to Dan Kessler for more information.

Questions: What has changed for the upcoming internship recruiting schedule?
We have adjusted our On-Campus Recruiting internship calendar to support your efforts to have ample time to identify and target candidates for your organization. Starting on November 2 after the Exclusive Academic Period ends, you and your organization’s recruiting leaders will be able to reach out to first-year students using several vehicles.
- Register for The Company Networking Night on November 18. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with students in an informal setting.
- Consider inviting high-potential students to a small event.
- Present a cutting-edge solution to a challenging business problem to a student club.
- Purchase the GSB Resume Database to target specific students.
- Maximize your success by developing an effective recruiting strategy with an efficient use of resources. Please contact our Recruiting Relationship Manager for a consultation.
For first-year students, the months of November through January are dedicated to research, networking, applying, and focusing on interview preparation prior to On-Campus interviews which start in February. From a student’s perspective, he or she is looking forward to meeting you and to having time to research diverse industries and target organizations before deciding to apply to specific firms. This recruiting calendar is new for 2009-2010 and we look forward to your feedback about its effectiveness.

Customers Can't Buy It If They Don't Know It Exists
Rock groups can lose as much as 40% of their potential sales because consumers don’t know enough about them, says the Stanford Business School’s Alan Sorensen. There are lots of crowded markets out there where lack of information skews sales.
Courting So-So Customers Can Be Good for Business
Marketers often lavish attention on their best customers, but Stanford Graduate School of Business researchers James M. Lattin and V. Srinivasan suggest it may be more cost effective to increase their spending on clients who only occasionally use their products or services.
