Recruiting - Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
Can my company host pre-matriculation events?

  • Answer:
Companies may hold summer events for admitted students by emailing with MBA Admissions. Admissions will not provide companies with names and contact information of admitted students but they may send your email to the list of admitted students who have confirmed matriculation. It is up to the admitted students whether or not they choose to attend. If you hold such a summer event and gather names of students, please do not contact them during the Exclusive Academic Period (August 1 - Nov. 1, 2008) to respect the school's policy of no recruiting or club activities during this six-week period of time.

Question:
Are there any dates after November 1 that a company must avoid for private targeted or club events?

  • Answer:
Yes, companies should not schedule any events on November 5 or 12 when the two GSB sponsored Recruiter Day/Company Networking Nights are scheduled for the entire MBA1 class or October 7 when the only Company Networking Night the entire MBA2 class is scheduled. To maximize potential attendance, we highly recommend you contact your Recruiting Relationship Manager before scheduling any private or targeted events.

Question:
My company is smaller than many that recruit at the GSB. How does the new recruiting program support my efforts?

  • Answer:
The Recruiter Day format for MBA1s and the Company Networking Night for MBA1s and MBA2s are designed to increase the number of students that all companies see at the beginning of the recruiting cycle. With multiple companies participating at only these marquee events we expect significant attendance, thereby helping smaller organizations meet greater numbers of students.

Question:
I am planning my activities for the upcoming recruiting season. Should I confer with the CMC on these dates and plans?

  • Answer:
Yes, please contact your Recruiting Relationship Manager to discuss your plans for the coming year. Our staff can help you develop high-impact events and at the optimal times by informing you if other companies from your industry are planning events for the same date. By coordinating with the CMC, each company can maximize potential student attendance.

Question:
How do I advertise my recruiting events?

  • Answer:
The CMC is developing Communication Channels that recruiters will be able to access September 22 for MBA2s and after November 1 for MBA1s. When sending an email each company can select the target student audience based on industry and functional preferences that students have indicated. The online form is available on the Recruiter Dashboard. CMC staff will check daily for employer communication requests and send them to the target students. If the CMC has questions, we will contact the employer directly to clarify. By sending your email communications to students that have indicated interest in your industry and functional areas, you will access a more focused group of students interested in your industry or function. The CMC will no longer send email communications or event advertisements to student clubs, except for diversity clubs. This method will also decrease the number of emails individual students receive as they will only receive one email communication for each event. The goals are to broaden the pool of interested students for employers and to secure the attention of students with targeted communications.

Question:
My company wants to plan a career education event with a student club. How do we do this?

  • Answer:
Contact your Recruiting Relationship Manager to plan club events. She will assist you in connecting with the target club.

Question:
When will MBA1s join clubs?

  • Answer:
Students will join clubs on October 29, 2008 at the Student Activities Fair.

Question:
Can my company still put a welcome advertisement in the Stanford Business Reporter in the fall?

  • Answer:
Companies cannot place ads in the Reporter welcoming MBA1 students to the GSB community until after November 1, 2008.

Question:
Can my company stuff student mailboxes with welcome messages for MBA1s?

  • Answer:
Companies cannot stuff mailboxes until after November 1.

Question:
When can my company hold evaluative recruiting events for MBA1s?

Question:
With the GSB new curriculum changes, will MBA1 students be ready for winter intern interviews?

  • Answer:
In consultation with the Academic Dean and key faculty members, the CMC has been assured that MBA1 students will receive the core competencies needed for intern interviews. The Strategy class has been moved to the fall quarter. Basic Accounting principles will be taught in fall. Managerial Finance is also a core class in the fall. In addition, dedicated career education days and videotaped mock interviews are planned for fall.

Question:
What is the global requirement and how do students fulfill it? Can my company get involved?

  • Answer:
Each Class of 2010 first-year student is required to complete a global requirement prior to matriculating in his or her second-year. Students must fulfill this requirement in a country in which they have not lived or worked. This requirement can be completed in one of three ways:
    1. Participating in a Study Trip led by a faculty member.
    2. Participating in a Global Management Immersion Experience (GMIX.) A GMIX is a 4-week internship at the end of the summer between the first and second year of study following a 10-week summer internship.
    3. Participating in Service Learning organized by the Public Management Program.
If your company is interested in learning more about these opportunities, please contact your Recruiting Relationship Manager, and she will connect you with the appropriate GSB office.
