Spotlight

GSB Recruiting in 2008-2009
Last year, the CMC implemented new presentation formats for both classes. Employer feedback was very positive due to higher student attendance. Students also liked the new formats because they were efficient and provided an opportunity to meet with a broad range of organizations, including some they wouldn't have otherwise known about or had time to meet with.

The only change for this coming year is that we will host just one Company Networking Night for second-year students and self-sponsored Sloan Fellows. Holding one event will drive an even greater number of second-year students to this marquee event.

Here are some more details for those of you who are not familiar with the key aspects of your MBA presentations,
on-campus recruiting schedules, the Exclusive Academic Period, and communicating events to the CMC.

“Energy Is Not a God-Given Right,” Says Chevron’s O’Reilly
By“Energy is not a God-given right,” Chevron Chairman David O’Reilly cautioned a Business School audience. Coming up quickly with alternatives to oil will be nearly impossible, because the amount of energy required globally is so huge.

India’s Economic Growth is Missing the Poor
India’s economy has doubled in the past decade, but Nobel-winning economist Amartya Sen told a Business School audience the benefits are not being shared equally by all levels of Indian society.

Question: I see that registration for next year’s on-campus recruiting (OCR) was May 12-23, but I’m not certain of my 2009 hiring needs at this time. Does this preclude my organization from participating in OCR next year?

Answer: No. Early registration is provided as a service for organizations with established on-campus MBA recruitment programs, since we recognize their need to schedule interviews at multiple campuses for multiple divisions. However, if your hiring needs are not known at this time, we can accommodate you on a space-available basis after June 9. We recommend that you contact us as soon as you are ready so we can develop a customized recruiting program that best fits your needs and objectives.

Also, remember that there are still talented students who are still seeking positions. If you are looking to hire for a summer internship or full-time position, please remember that there are several additional ways in which we can still be of help:

  • Post a summer or full-time position on the Job Board via the Recruiter Dashboard. You can also post jobs to Sloan Fellows as well as GSB alumni for full-time, experienced roles.
  • Review the resume books of first- and second-year Stanford MBA students. Complimentary access is provided as of mid-April; contact Charlotte Carter for the link and password. Note: Organizations must be approved by the CMC in order to access the Resume Book. We are unable to provide access to third parties such as Executive Search firms.
  • Send us your job description and we will circulate it directly to the CMC career advisors who may know students who are a good match for the position.
  • Speak to a CMC contact for information about connecting with student clubs.
