Overview & Planning

OCR is a high-impact way to reach Stanford MBAs. There are eight key steps in planning an on-campus interview. Keep in mind that our Recruiting Services Team is always available to discuss your individual needs for every step.

1. Consider Needs

Start by considering your organization’s hiring needs and level of resources. This step will help determine the appropriate venue for recruiting. Consult the latest employment report to see how your position compares to positions that our students seek in terms of industry, function, and location. Also, keep timing in mind. The academic year at the Stanford GSB starts in late September and ends mid-June.

2. Set Recruiting Goals

Set goals for how many students you hope to interview and hire. Remember our relatively small class size of about 370 students per class.

3. Schedule Your Interviews and Presentations

When registering for OCR, be prepared to list your preferred recruiting dates and availability to participate in Recruiter Day(s) and Company Networking Night(s). Once submitted, you will receive an email confirming your request. It is not necessary to submit the complete job description at this time, but you will need to at least six weeks ahead of OCR.

The job descriptions are a key component to your recruiting communication. They educate students on the opportunity and candidate qualifications you are seeking. The more compelling and complete your job description, the better. Please email descriptions to CMCrecruiting@gsb.stanford.edu

Space is limited with respect to presentation dates.

When registering for OCR, you will need to choose the appropriate interview length and format.

  • All on-campus interview schedules are combined open and closed. This means that: 70 percent of interviews are determined by your selection of students from the Resume Book or resume drop and 30 percent of interviews are open for bidding. However, please note that if you do not submit your closed-list invitations by the confirmed deadline, your schedule will become 100 percent open.
  • You will be asked to choose between 30-, 45-, and 60-minute interviews. We also offer 30- and 45-minute back-to-back interviews. Please make sure your recruiters understand the open/closed schedule.
  • To provide support for our students to pursue new career paths, we do not offer a 100% closed interview option.
4. Review Deadlines

Review the deadlines in your confirmation email from the CMC. Ensure that a hiring manager(s) is ready for to review resume reviews. This will enable your organization to turnaround your closed list by the closed list deadline. Develop you own internal timelines for both the first round as well as second round of interviews. Before finalizing second round dates, ask your Recruiting Relationship Manager to help avoid any school conflicts.

5. Communicate Company Information

Think through ways to promote your company and its opportunities to students. Remember that well-communicated follow-up and a consistent message both impact an organization’s recruiting success. Also, if you are new to OCR, you may need increase your organization's visibility.

For presentations and interviews, bring copies of anything you would like to distribute.

6. Inviting Students to Interview with You

Students indicate an interest in your organization by dropping a resume online via our GSB Recruiting System. You can view these resumes by logging into the Recruiter Dashboard. Remember to submit your closed list online by the deadline, containing those students you wish to invite for interviews. Otherwise, the schedule turns 100% open.(filled by bidding)

To submit a closed list, log in to the Recruiter Dashboard and select view/invite students attached to each specific interview schedule.

7. Review Your Final Schedule

Four days prior to your visit to campus, your Interview Schedule will turn final. It will be available through the GSB Recruiting System. If you need to make any changes to this schedule, please advise your Recruiting Relationship Manager at the CMC immediately (contact below). Students also advise the CMC of any last minute changes. Students face consequences for any cancellations within 48 hours of an interview.

8. Check in on the Day of Interviews

Please check in at the CMC at least half an hour before your first interview. Be sure to bring with you enough business cards or each student on your schedule. Bring two extra cards for the CMC. We post these on a bulletin board for students and on your interview room door. Finally, complimentary beverages and meals are served in the Recruiter Lounge.
