Center for Social Innovation

Mission

At the core of the Stanford Graduate School of Business' Center for Social Innovation is a groundbreaking approach, which is driven by an essential purpose and a modern vision.

Approach

Dissolve boundaries and promote the mutual exchange of ideas and values across sectors, across disciplines, and between theory and practice.

The approach that drives all the Center's activities is to dissolve boundaries and promote the exchange of innovative ideas and values. Stanford's ability to draw people together allows us to bring disparate views to bear on social problems and allows us to leverage multiple experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds, leading to new insights, alliances, and solutions.

Purpose

Strengthen the capacity of individuals and organizations to develop innovative solutions to social problems.

Building on the core competencies of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Center is uniquely suited to inspire and foster social change. The Center builds capacity on multiple levels—discovering and disseminating knowledge, building skills and competencies, and supporting individuals to see themselves as agents of change. Through this comprehensive model of capacity building we facilitate individual action that leads to social impact.

Vision

Create a vibrant community of people who are actively engaged in building a more just, sustainable, and prosperous world.

Social change does not happen in a vacuum but requires individuals connected to larger networks and communities. The Center provides ongoing support to nurture its network of alumni, students, faculty, practitioners, and thought leaders, providing content, convening, and programs that promote lifelong questioning, learning, and problem solving. The Center community enables individuals and organizations to have an even greater impact in their careers and lives.
