Center for Social Innovation

Research

CSI has created a vital forum to engage scholars in research about social problems and solutions. The Center's scholars seek new understanding of the:

  • environments in which social innovation occurs;
  • benefits and limits of adapting business approaches to social-and public-sector organizations;
  • impact of increased interaction and competition across the sectors; and
  • creation and measurement of social and environmental value.

Through its focused support for social-sector research initiatives, the Center encourages interdisciplinary inquiry and raises the visibility and stature of social sector research. In 2003, the Center launched a major, multi-year study of nonprofits, the Stanford Project on the Evolution of Nonprofits. CSI also supports numerous faculty research projects.
