While classroom-based learning is the primary
focus of the program, several other factors play roles in determining
its overall impact. In addition to its leading academic reputation,
aspects such as Stanford's cultural environment and social atmosphere
are what make participation in the Stanford Executive Program a truly
life-changing experience.
Exploring the San Francisco Bay Area
The Stanford campus is conveniently located at the center
of a wealth of local attractions, which participants can explore on weekends and
during the mid-program break. The city of San Francisco lies less than an
hour to the north by car or rail, with the world-famous vineyards of Napa Valley
just beyond. To the south lie the scenic Pacific beach towns of Santa
Cruz, Pebble Beach, Monterey, and Carmel.
Practicing a Healthy Lifestyle
All
participants are encouraged to take part in the optional physical health
component of the Stanford Executive Program. Based on strong
evidence that a healthier lifestyle benefits executives in many ways,
the program features daily outdoor morning exercise sessions
administered by a team of professional fitness instructors.
Participants take part in these exercise sessions as a group and follow
a regimen that is customized based on each participant's fitness level. Participants consistently rank the morning
exercise component of the program as one of the most popular and
rewarding extracurricular activities.
Getting to Know Participants and Faculty
Throughout the program, special events are
organized to create memorable opportunities for the participants to
build relationships with each other, to informally interact with
Stanford faculty members, and to celebrate the cultural diversity of
their participant group. Each week the program staff (with the help of
any interested participants) plans a Friday night gala dinner and
reception that showcases the cultural, culinary, and social traditions
of the countries represented in the program.
Staying Close to Family and Loved Ones
For many participants, attending the Stanford Executive
Program entails a difficult personal choice, as they must spend time away from a
spouse, partner, child, or other loved one. Recognizing the gravity of this
commitment, the directors of the program incorporate several family-friendly
aspects into its design. Participants enjoy a mid-program break of nearly four
days, during which they may return home or have loved ones come to the San
Francisco area for a visit. Having no mandatory classes on weekends means that
further visits within North America are possible, and guests are always welcome
at the program's Friday night gala dinners. Finally, participants are encouraged
to invite family members and other guests to attend the program's final two days as we say goodbye.
I left SEP with confidence and exuberance. I gained a new global perspective that was not only induced by the highly qualified and seasoned faculty, but also was expanded by the interaction I had with my classmates, who came into the program after already achieving much success in their careers. SEP is truly a professional and personal growth experience—an opportunity to step out of your day-to-day life and focus on learning, networking, and expanding your horizons.
Program dates, fees, and faculty are subject to change. If a program is cancelled, Stanford will refund the program tuition in full but is not responsible for travel, accommodations or other expenses incurred by the participant.
