Tom Dixon and Macho Taco, Goal Setting Vignette

By Joel Peterson, Joshua Spitzer
2005 | Case No. E199
In this vignette, protagonist Tom Dixon’s business has the opportunity to acquire another similar business. Dixon’s board has advised him to seek acquisition targets, but his two VPs do not want him to pursue the acquisition of a potentially appealing company. They believe that the deal would take the company in a new direction, turning away from what each perceives to have been the company’s key success factors. The vignette culminates in an incident that will force Dixon to articulate new objectives for the company and then present them to the employees, management, and board of directors.
