Zephyr Peacock India: Perfectly Diligent

By William Meehan, Paul Pfleiderer, Sheila Melvin, Debra McCoy
2013 | Case No. F283 | Length 18 pgs.

Zephyr Management was founded in 1994 with the goal of specializing in emerging markets, both in marketable securities and private equity. Having decided to expand in Asia, it chose India as the best location for a global PE firm with its skill sets and established Zephyr Peacock India in 2006. To navigate the minefields of India’s investment environment and find ideal entrepreneurs, Zephyr Peacock practiced in-depth investigation and research, rigorous relationship-building, and unstinting due diligence.

Learning Objective

This case explains how Zephyr Peacock India seeks to find ideal partners in which to invest. It begins by learning everything possible about markets, micro-markets, and companies and then conducts exhaustive, time-consuming, and costly due diligence before reaching any agreement. The process is onerous and often results in disappointment – but disillusionment is not an option.
