GSB Announces Sharon Marine as
Associate Dean for Development
January 2009
The Stanford Graduate School of Business announced that Sharon Marine has been promoted to Associate Dean for Development. She succeeds David Kennedy, who is leaving the GSB to become a Senior Associate Vice President for Development at Stanford University. In his eight years at the GSB, Kennedy successfully built the development team, and developed and implemented a series of innovative fundraising approaches and programs focused on support for the School’s people, programs, and its new campus.
Marine has been at the GSB for four and a half years, most recently as Director of Development with responsibility for overseeing all major gifts and reunion and annual giving activities for the School. In that role, she also served as an active field fundraiser and provided strategic and operational direction for the School’s $500 million multi-year capital campaign. Prior to that, she had served as Director of Campaign Giving and Major Gifts at the GSB.
Marine has more than 16 years of development experience in higher education. Prior to joining Stanford in 2004, she spent five years as the Western Regional Development Director for the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1992 to 1999, she worked for the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, holding positions in annual giving and major gifts during her tenure. Marine received her bachelor’s degree from Brown University.
Under her leadership, the GSB looks forward to completing fundraising efforts for the Knight Management Center and the School’s priorities within The Stanford Challenge to develop new, innovative programs in the years ahead.
