Hunsu M. Özyegin,Turkish entrepreneur and philanthropist (February 2008)
Hunsu Özyegin visited with a small group of students to discuss his experiences in starting Finansbank, the fifth largest bank in Turkey, and the challenges of expanding it to more than 450 branches operating in nine countries throughout Europe.
He also spoke about his latest ambition of lifting Turkish educational standards at the primary and university level.
Narayana Murthy, Chairman, Chief Mentor, and Co-founder Infosys Technologies, Ltd. (January 2008)
In Narayana Murthy's second visit as Denning Distinguished Fellow in Global Business and the Economy, he took part in a "Coffee Series." This series gave Mr. Murthy the opportunity to meet with a small group of students to discuss specific issues, such as mentorship and the IT Industry.
Josh Silver,
Founder Adaptive Eyecare (March 2007)
Professor Silver, an Oxford University physicist, spoke to GSB students about his discovery of a new way to change the curvature of corrective lenses. His innovation is particularly useful for people in developing countries where specially trained optometrists are not available. In 1996, he formed a company, Adaptive Eyecare, to develop these adaptive ophthalmic lenses in partnership with the UK Government's Department for International Development for distribution in developing countries.

"Pioneering Financial Services for the Poor"
GSB alumna, Monica Brand, outlined the business model of microfinance and how it is employed to help the poor build assets, and elaborated on the challenges and opportunities of using social enterprise to integrate marginalized populations into the world's financial systems to improve their standard of living.

Africa: Open for Business (April 2006)
The GMP, along with the Center for Global Business and the Economy, the Africa Business Club, and the Stanford African Students' Association, sponsored a screening of Carol Pineau's documentary, Africa: Open for Business. The inspiring film covers ten different countries, showcasing both large and small business in a mix of industries in Africa. The Africa in this documentary is able, has capacity, and can be competitive in the global economy.

"Commonsense Talk about an Uncommon Country"
Journalist-turned-businessman James McGregor views China as being simultaneously the world's largest startup and the world's largest turnaround. As The Wall Street Journal's China bureau chief, he documented the sweeping changes that have taken China from the edge of economic chaos to the verge of economic predominance. And his new book ONE BILLION CUSTOMERS combines the saga of China's rise as a business power with practical lessons on how to do business there. In this speech, McGregor walked the audience into the middle of the Chinese business world while sharing his insider's perspective on the politics, the people and China's changing place in the world order.

"Do You Really Want to Have an International Career?"
GSB alum Patrick Lee shared his personal experiences on what he learned, in retrospect, about embarking on an international career. To quote him, he wanted "to answer questions I didn't know at the time to ask" and "share anecdotes from an accidental international career!". Patrick has a well-established commercial and transactions track record in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and medical products. He was Group Vice President for mergers & acquisitions at Rhône Poulenc in Paris prior to joining Advent. Since joining Advent he has developed investment opportunities in pharmaceutical and medical devices businesses, in various stages of their development.
