- When you perform a keyword search, the word variants are included in your search by default. For example, if you’ve entered finance, the search results will include finances, financing etc.
- For exact matches, put your search term in quotation marks.
Sample Search
I'm looking for research on the investment advisors market in US
1. In the search text box in the top right
corner enter investment advisor.
2. From the drop-down list in the box below
the search box, select Everything in US.
3. Click go.
4. On the result list, select the report which
topic fits the closest to your search request.
5. In the left navigation, select sections in bold
font, one at a time, to view your search
terms in context. If there is more than one
occurence in the selected section, click the
prev or next arrows in the Find box.
6. Download/export sections of the report. You can only download each section
separately.

Mintel: Jump-Start Guide
The Mintel database contains market research reports covering U.S. and Global consumer markets and products, with an emphasis on Western European and U.S. markets.
Logging In
Upon the first login to Mintel, you will be required to register with your Stanford email address and select your own password. Once you have registered, Mintel automatically creates your personal user profile where you can save and later retrieve your searches. You can access your user profile at any time by clicking the my info tab.
On each subsequent use of the database, you will need to click the I Agree button located below the terms of academic use and sign in with your email address and password.
How to Search

- Quick Search: Search across the entire database for relevant reports and articles. Enter your search term(s) in the search box in the top right corner and click go. You can combine keyword searches with a country selection from a drop-down list in the box below the search box.
- Advanced Search: Perform a more precise search by combining keywords/phrases with additional search criteria. Click the advanced search tab at the top, and select your criteria from the available fields which include subject category/industry sector, country, and research type (report, news etc.).
- Reports Browse Search: Select relevant reports by browsing the reports' listing or reports' categories on the reports homepage (shown above). Alternatively, you can select the browsing options from the top bar on left right above the reports homepage.
Viewing Reports
To select a report, click on its title. Each report has its own homepage supplemented with links to relevant news articles, companies’ profiles, and related reports. The contents of each report homepage vary.
Note: you can view/save a report only by selecting individual sections of the report from the Contents section in the left navigation column or from the drop-down list in the box at the top of each section.
Also, you can perform a keyword(s) search within a report by clicking the Search this report only check box located next to the search box. The titles of the sections containing your search term(s) will appear in bold font.
Printing / Downloading / Saving Results
With a report section or news item displayed, the Options section in the left navigation column provides the downloading choices. For reports, select from the following: Download Section, Export to basket, Bookmark, Print.

How to download saved results
- To download documents saved to Export basket, click the Export basket tab on the top bar.
- Select documents for downloading, and then select the document format from the links above.

- To get access to all saved items (Bookmarks, Comments, Graphs, Export Basket), click the my info tab on the top menu bar.

Contains articles written by Mintel analysts covering the latest developments in consumer markets. The most recent feature is placed at the top of the page.
How to search What's Hot page
NEWS
A collection of updated daily news items broken down into several subject categories: Latest News, Product Innovation, Company News, Market Updates, and Advertising News. Additional notable feature is the Useful Lists link at the top left. By clicking the link you will open the page containing the Top... lists grouped by sectors covered in Mintel.
MEDIA HOMEPAGE
Contains a subset of news articles related to media, PR, and advertising. Additionally, includes a listing of media-business related companies and two lists of specialized agencies: advertising agencies and agencies involved in Planning and Buying. A company's record contains directory-type information and related news when available.
How to search the Media Homepage

COMPANIES
Contains two data sets:
- Management Profiles – articles containing news items mentioning top management executives within the industry sectors covered by Mintel. The articles are grouped by sector, and then by date.
- Companies – profiles of companies within the industry sectors covered by Mintel. Profiles contain basic directory-type information and related news articles. Companies are grouped first by industry sectors, then by sub-sectors, and then by name in alphabetical order. On the result list you can select and download multiple companies profiles by selecting the links at top right
