SDC: Jump-Start Guide

The Database offers the most comprehensive current and historical data on financial transactions worldwide.

Access this database in the Traders Pit; you will need to check out the binder at the Information Desk. If you are GSB Faculty, this database can be installed in your office, upon request; contact Ask Us

HOW TO SEARCH

Step 1: Select Database

Click on one of the database tabs: VentureXpert, Global Public Finance, Global New Issues Databases, Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Governance, Corporate Restructurings.

Then select sub-categories.

Step 2: Select a Date Range

Due to licensing agreement, there is 30-day embargo on recent data. With this limitation, you can only select Custom date range.

NOTE: In VentureXpert, instead of dates, select Search Menu or Express Reports to proceed.

Step 3: Select Screening Criteria

  1. In the Search Items box select items in tabbed categories or search for items by keyword under All items tab.
  2. Click OK on right after you have added all criteria.
  3. Close the Search Items box.
  4. Additional features: Click Utilities from the top bar, and select additional criteria to further customize your request, such as: Top N Deals, Logical Set Operations, etc.
Tips for selecting items
  • To select an item, double click it. When an item is selected, a checkmark appears in front of its name and the color turns to red.
  • To select an item category (preceded by + sign) or multiple items within a category, click on the category name or click multiple items to highlight them, then right-click and select Select Highlighted Item(s).
  • To exclude items from your search, double click the item, then click the Exclude button on the bottom bar of the box.
  • To return to Search Items box, click the Search on top icon bar [icon-search]

Step 4: Run a Search

  1. Review your selections in the main window.
  2. Click [icon-execute] on the top icon bar (the last right icon).

After your search request is processed, you can see the number of results for each selection in the Hits column. If the final number of results is zero, you need to revise you search criteria. NOTE: You can modify any selection in the Main window.

How to modify criteria in the Main window
  1. Point your mouse at the selection and right-click. Select Modify or Delete. Or from the top menu, select Request > Modify or > Delete.
  2. Execute your search again

Step 5: Create a Report


Standard Report


• Click [icon-report] on the top icon bar; in the dialog box, select a report    under the tabbed categories, e.g. Brief, Comprehensive, etc. To see
   the report's template, click the Example button in the lower right
   corner of the dialog box.

 

Custom Report

• Select Report > New Custom dropdown from the top menu bar.

How to create a custom report
  1. In the Express Report Items dialog box, select all items for your output report. To select an item, double click it. To search for items by keyword, click the All items tab. Click OK when done.
  2. If the Confirm [design mode] box pops up, click NO and proceed.
  3. Save your report.
  4. Optionally, add title to your report in the Report Options box.


League Tables Report
(where available):

• For Standard report, click [icon-league] on top icon bar.

• For Custom report, click League Tables > New Custom dropdown    on the top menu bar.

 

Analysis Report (where available):

• For Standard report, click [icon-analysis] on top icon bar.

• For Custom report, click Analysis > New Custom dropdown from
   the top menu bar.

 

Statistics Report

• Select Utilities > Statistics dropdown on the top menu bar

Step 6: Run a Report

Click [icon-execute] on top icon bar.

 

Download or Save Your Results

To download / save report in Excel, from the top icon bar, click [icon-save].
In the Save Output box, from the drop-down list in Files of type at the bottom, select MS Excel (*.xls)
