Identifying a business opportunity and valuation of a company

For industry performance:

  • S&P NetAdvantage: Includes e-version of S&P industry survey, which summarizes the current environment of an industry, trends, how the industry operates, key ratios, and the keys to analyzing a company in the industry. [icon - Stanford]

  • RMA Annual Statement Studies (Reference Room: Alphabetical Subject Section: Financial Ratios): Provides standard ratios by industry. Catalog record
  • IBISWorld: Contains research on every US industry within the four-digit NAICS code.

For company performance and competitor analysis:

  • Capital IQ: Use Screening & Analytic > Comparable Company Analysis to create a side-by side performance report based on your selected criteria, such as financials, market data, etc., for your custom companies set.   • ORBIS: Use Peer Analyses to compare performance of your subject company against a custom set of companies or use Peer Report to compare performance of your subject company against a preselected group of companies within the same industry sector. [icon - GSB Network]
  • Thomson One Banker-Analytics: Create custom sets of companies based on your selected criteria or use the "Peer companies" group and create a side-by-side companies performance reports based on your selected criteria such as financials, market data, etc. Database includes both public and private companies.
