Artist Haddon Sundblom was hired in 1931 to redesign Santa Claus. What influenced his color choices?
Answer:
Coca Cola. Before the redesign Santa Claus was dressed in an array of different costumes and colors. This all changed in the 1930's when the Coca Cola Company hired Haddon Sundblom to standardize the jolly guy. He chose the Coca Cola Company colors of red and white and used himself as a model for Santa. The red and white Santa partnership is said to have contributed to the success of Coca Cola and Santa Claus.

Uber-pollster John Zogby’s The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on The Transformation of The American Dream challenges the conventional wisdom that the U.S. is isolated from the world, politically fragmented and materialistic. Drawing on thousands of interviews, Zogby predicts the future. He sees the American Dream in transition, being redefined by four meta-movements: living within limits, embracing diversity, looking inward for guidance and demanding authenticity. Spearheaded by today’s 18-29 year old “First Global Generation”, Zogby argues we are becoming more internationalist, environmentally-conscious, and consenus-oriented and less job-obssessed than ever. Say it Ain’t So! Even Buffett Isn’t Perfect is the title of a new book by Vahan Janjigian of the Forbes Investors Advisory Institute. Subtitled ‘What You Can – and Can’t – Learn From The World’s Greatest Investor’, the book attempts to dispel myths about Buffett and his investment style, and show readers how to learn from the master while avoiding strategies that don’t apply to small investors. Steve Forbes pronounces the book “neither a love letter nor a put-down”, while Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at S&P writes “In 2006, Warren shared with Bill [Gates] the Buffett fortune. Now, Vahan shares with us the Buffett wisdom”. See if you agree. HG4521.J286 2008

Two Years At That Other Place. Ahead of the Curve: Two Years at Harvard Business School ) by Philip Delves Broughton describes his experiences as an HBS student after he quit his post as Paris bureau chief for the London Daily Telegraph. Drawn by Harvard’s tradition of excellence, the author describes the School’s case-based curriculum and offers his own views after pondering more than 500 cases. He also exposes some of the less savory aspects, such as the “booze luge” and the weight of depression that torments overburdened students. An interesting perspective during this centenary year of the HBS. HF1134.H4 B76 2008
