Out of the Crisis by W. Edwards Deming
Deming's teachings challenged American business practice at almost every point. Among his most revolutionary ideas were the notions that poor management--not slacker workers--was responsible for most quality problems, and the way to boost quality was to carefully measure defects and the effects of changing processes. He strongly advocated a customerfocus, using market demands to define the standards of good quality, long before it was popular. HD70.U5 D45 1988

Go green, live rich : 50 simple ways to save the earth and get rich trying David Bach and Hillary Rosner are here to tell you that you can both ‘go green’ and make the big bucks. The book outlines fifty ways to make your life, home, shopping and finances greener. The authors focus on helping the reader take advantage of the green wave in personal finance without the difficult work of evaluating individual stocks. And Bach, author of seven national bestsellers, will also get you to think about starting your own green business. Among the 50 ways to save the earth : grow a greener lawn, get a green credit card, get an energy audit, ‘green your holidays’, and -- my favorite -- get rid of junk mail. GF78.B33 2008
A Class With Drucker: The Lost Lessons of the World’s Greatest Management Teacher by William A. Cohen puts you in the lecture hall with the legendary guru. Cohen reveals many of Drucker’s teachings that never made it into his many books and articles. A pupil of Drucker and the first graduate of his doctoral program, Cohen expands on lessons with personal anecdotes about Drucker’s personality, lack of pretension and interactions with students and others. “Bill Cohen brings that laboratory of learning alive to those of us who didn’t have the pleasure, privilege, or opportunity to sit at the feet of the master in Peter’s classroom,” writes Ira Jackson, Dean of the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont. “One can feel the energy, the humor, the discipline, the interaction, the edge, the simplicity, and the relevance of Peter’s practice of teaching."

What Have You Changed Your Mind About? Today’s Leading Minds Rethink Everything edited by John Brockman, challenges the reader to engage with provocative questions about life, love and everything. 150 high-powered thinkers were asked to discuss their most telling missteps and reconsiderations, and the answers are eye-opening, fascinating and occasionally shocking. Join in the dialog as Richard Dawkins muses on the mysteries of courtship, Nassim Nicholas Taleb on the irrelevance of probability, Chris Anderson on global warming, Irene Pepperberg on learning from parrots, Alan Alda on the existence of God, Brian Eno on what it means to be a ‘revolutionary," Ray Kurzweil on the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and more. "Inspired and inspiring”. So writes Jim Collins (Good to Great) about Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits by Leslie R. Crutchfield and Heather McLeod Grant. Asking ‘What makes great nonprofits great?’, the authors spent four years surveying thousands of nonprofit leaders and conducting hundreds of interviews. What they found surprised them. At a time when the social sector has grown to over $1 trillion, understanding what leads to real impact is essential. Whether you are an entrepreneur or a profit leader, this book can inspire you as it did Jim Collins. As political consultant and Harvard Professor David Gergen says, “For people who want to change the world -- and who doesn’t? -- this book provides an invaluable road map. Bravo!” HD62.6.C78 2008
