Below are key resources offered by Jackson Library for you to use in your job search or basic business research. Many of the products below are also used by businesses nation wide to research markets and competitors.

Come to the 30 min library workshops offered to learn more about them. The Job Search Workshop will take place in the MBA computer lab on the following dates:

(use Find > Companies function)

  • Find companies using search criteria such as number of employees, location, description of business, or a combination of all three
  • Browse comprehensive profile of companies including financials
    TIP: Use if you have a good idea of companies you want to work for and need more detailed background information.
Hoover's Online

(use Build Company Lists > Hoover's In-Depth function)

  • First step in creating a comprehensive list of potential employers according to criteria such as line of business, keyword, location, or key numbers
  • Browse basic information on companies
    TIP: Use when beginning from scratch to get a feel for companies as possibilities, especially if you are researching smaller companies.

  • Create a list of companies according to criteria such as line of business, size, location, stock exchange, public versus private
  • Contains large multinational companies as well as small regional businesses, such as drycleaners and convenience stores
Plunkett Research-

Employers Search Center
(use Job Seekers/ Careers > Search for Employers)

  • Search through hand-selected major employers featured in the 2004 edition of The Almanac of American Employers
  • Companies are U.S.-based, have 2,500+ employees and fit certain industry/company criteria that make them appropriate for job seekers today.
  • TIP: Use 7 Keys to Research in the Job Seekers/ Careers section under Resources to help guide your job search.

Fortune 500 and other lists-(Jackson Reference: Table B)

Check the box labeled Corporation Directories for lists such as The 200 Best Small Companies, The Private 500, and The Business Week 1000.
