How to use library catalogs to find a book or a journal?

Jackson Library resources can be located using online catalogs. There are two catalogs listing our material: the Jackson Catalog, and Socrates (the Stanford University-wide catalog. For Jackson holdings, our Jackson Catalog is the more current and complete of the two.

There are two modes of searching: Simple Search or Advanced Search.

Use the Simple search to find results based on the author's name, publication title, subject or call number. Note that quick limits can be applied to simple search.

Advanced Search

Use the Advanced search to combine words/ phrases using Boolean operators (and, or, not) to search specific parts of a record like title, subject, author, publisher, name or date, or search keywords anywhere from the drop downs. You can always apply specific limits such as language, dates, place of publication, etc.

Course Reserve

Using the Course Reserve link (or tab), you can look up Reserve material for current GSB courses. The Reserve function also provides electronic access to selected reserve material. Reserve material is stored near the entrance to Jackson Library, at Access Services.

Select the instructor, course or section for which you wish to search for items.

The Jackson collections can also be searched using the University-wide catalog, Socrates. However, as noted above, our Jackson Catalog is the most complete record of Jackson's holdings.
