Reference Collection

The traditional heart of library holdings, the Reference Collection contains print research material such as handbooks, dictionaries, investment data, company directories, and statistical data. It is located on the entry floor of the Bass Center, just inside the entrance.

How is it Organized?

The Reference Collection is not arranged in strict call number order, like the main stacks. Instead, it is divided into alphabetically arranged subject sections (e.g. Motor Vehicles), or geographical areas (e.g. France) -- and then, within each section, by call number.

These sections are meant to be starting points, but since some topics may be potentially covered by more than one section (motor vehicles in Japan, for example), there may be more than one place to look for information on the shelves. When looking for a specific item, you might check the online catalog first. Feel free to ask a librarian for assistance.

Key Areas of the Collection

For easy browsing, the Alphabetical Subject Section contains categories on industries and subjects ranging from "Accounting" to the "Wine Industry."

The World Data Section is a collection of international information on countries and regions, arranged geographically, as well as trade data and statistical sources on all countries.

Types of information covered in the Collection include :

General data: dictionaries, general

Corporation directories: company lists

Who's Who: biographical sources

Bonds: performance, statistics

United States: statistics, directories, census

Industry data: overviews and analysis

California: California material

Stocks: rating services, price data

Associations and organizations: directories

Mutual funds: directories and ratings
