Visualizations

Computer studies help the team’s comparative understanding of the buildings energy use.  Some visualizations
may be used to ensure compliance with LEED® and code requirements as well as guiding the team with making
decisions with respect to different system options. Check back periodically as these studies will be updated.

Daylight Penetration: This video comparison (right) identifies, in real time, exactly where glaring sunlight will land throughout the day of any given season, and what the lighting effects are of changing properties of the building’s shading components.  By studying similar video models and fine tuning shading devices, the team controls the extent of direct sunlight penetration.

Natural Ventilation: This sketch describes the proposed Natural Ventilation solution for the Atrium of the Student Information Center at the Knight Management Center.  A simple computer simulation model was run in conjunction with this study to assess the amount of hours the space could be naturally ventilated and remain comfortable.

Air Routes: Also, in this example, it is important to consider which windows will be manually or automatically operated and where air routes must be maintained to ensure the proper flow occurs.
