Who Can Use the Library?

The Jackson Library exists primarily to serve the needs of the current faculty, staff and students of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. It is also open to current members of the Stanford community for their business research needs. The following users are also welcome to use the library:

Business School Alumni

The Library extends lifetime courtesy privileges to Business School alumni for their personal and professional advancement. Alumni may apply for a Jackson Library Business School ALUMNI card at the Circulation Desk. GSB ALUMNI cards are issued for a three-year period and can be renewed upon expiration. This describes information on Business School Alumni library access and borrowing privileges.

  • GSB ALUMNI cards are issued to individuals upon verification of personal identification.
  • Individuals must show their GSB ALUMNI card upon entering the library.
  • Library privileges must be exercised personally; designating proxies for library use is not permitted.
  • GSB ALUMNI cards are not transferable for use by other individuals, business associates, or family members.
  • Library privileges may be revoked or suspended if abused by the user.

Stanford University Alumni

Stanford University alumni who wish to use the library may apply for a Jackson Library STANFORD ALUMNI ACCESS card at the Circulation Desk. Stanford University alumni who wish to borrow library material may purchase a Jackson Library STANFORD UNIVERSITY ALUMNI BORROWER card.

The first seven one-day access cards per academic year are free. Additional access privileges and borrowing privileges are available according to the following fee schedule.

Access:

One-day card: $5
One-month card: $15
Three-month card: $ 40
One-year card: $100

Borrower:

Three-month card: $120
One-year card: $300

  • STANFORD ALUMNI cards are issued to individuals upon verification of personal identification and status.
  • Individuals must show their STANFORD ALUMNI card upon entering the library.

Visitors

Anyone may have seven courtesy visits to the library per academic year. After that access can be purchased at the rates listed below.

Access:

One-day card: $10
One-month card: $30
Three-month card: $80
One-year card: $200

Borrower:

Three-month card: $200
One-year card: $500

  • VISITORS agree to voluntarily yield to the needs of our primary clientele when necessary.
  • VISITOR cards are issued to individuals upon verification of personal identification.
  • Individuals must show their VISITOR card upon entering the library.
  • Library privileges must be exercised personally; designating proxies for library use is not permitted.
  • VISITOR cards are not transferable for use by other individuals, business associates, or family members.
  • Library privileges may be revoked or suspended if abused by the user.

Executive Education Program Participants

Participants in the programs are eligible for access to the Jackson Library for the duration of their enrollment.

  • Participants gain access by showing their Stanford University Conference Program cards or badges upon entering the library.
  • Library privileges are to be exercised personally; proxies for library use cannot be designated.
  • Conference Program cards or badges are not transferable for use by other individuals, business associates, or family members.

Institutions

Organizations and self-employed individuals desiring access to Jackson Library resources for their employees or representatives conducting business research must purchase Jackson Library Institution Cards.

10 coupons: $100

Application Procedure

  • Application must be made in person at the Jackson Library Access Services Desk.
  • An Institution Access Application, signed by the designated Card Custodian, indicating willingness to accept responsibility for all material borrowed by anyone in the organization must be presented at the time of application. A letter authorizing this person to serve in the capacity of Card Custodian, from a major departmental head or a chief executive officer of the institution must be on file before the card is issued.
  • The Card Custodian is responsible for maintaining accurate records of the individuals allowed to use both the access card and borrowing coupons.
  • Purchase of these cards is non-refundable.

INSTITUTION Card Use

  • INSTITUTION Card users agree to voluntarily yield to the needs of our primary clientele when necessary.
  • Individuals must present the INSTITUTION Card upon entering the library.
  • Only one individual per card is admitted at a time. Additional individuals must possess additional INSTITUTION Cards, or qualify for access as individuals.
  • Library privileges may be revoked or suspended if abused by the user.
