Course Reserves
Course Reserves consists of E-Reserves, available electronically both in CourseWork and Voyager, the library's online catalog; and Print Reserves, available at the Business Library i-Desk.Lists of all material on Course Reserve will be available in Voyager and CourseWork.
E-RESERVES
The library encourages the use of E-Reserves whenever possible. We will search all of the library licensed content sources for electronic versions of the books and articles you want to place on reserve and we will scan individual book chapters and journal articles for electronic access via E-Reserves.
Links to electronic copies of articles and e-books will be included in your CourseWork sites. Once the items are on reserve library staff can add a folder to the Materials section of your site with links to the articles and e-books. A link to your Course Reserve page will automatically be added to your Coursework site in the Materials section. Instructional Technology will set permissions for library staff to access CourseWork sites to link to Course Reserves. If you do not wish to have library staff add reserve items to your CourseWork site please let us know.
PRINT RESERVES
Print copies of material that is not available in electronic format will be on reserve at the library's i-Desk. Students may borrow reserves for a 2-hour or 1-day loan period, depending on the item. If the library does not own an item needed for reserve, the library will purchase it, if possible.
Guidelines for Preparing Reserve Lists
- Use the Business Library Reserve Reading Material form to submit your Course Reserve requests.
- Please do not mix reserve materials for different classes on the same form. You can submit an unlimited number of reserve materials for each class, but always go to a new, blank page when starting the reserve list for a different course.
- Only REQUIRED MATERIAL should be placed on reserve, including all required textbooks.
- Reserve loan periods for print materials may be 2 HOURS or 1 DAY. Please indicate the suggested loan period.
- Please indicate usage in the space designated as usage according to the reserve use categories criteria listed below, we will attempt to supply the correct number of copies needed for your students.
Reserve Use Categories
|
Category |
Example of Usage |
|---|---|
|
Text |
To be purchased by students. (The library provides only one copy of each required textbook.) |
|
Heavy |
Students are required to read most of this book. Students may be requested to purchase the book. |
|
Moderate |
Students are required to read selections from this material. |
|
Light |
Must read less than 10-15 pages per assignment, or book to be used only lightly or moderately by certain students (not required of entire class). |
If you do not indicate how often a reserve item will be used, we will assume it will be used on a "light" basis and will only provide one copy of the item.
Due to limited reserve loan periods, suggested or recommended readings (not required by any student) should be available in the library for students to charge out for the regular four week period, not placed on reserve. We will be happy to make sure these items are available in the library if you provide us with a list (E-mail: library@gsb.stanford.edu). Likewise, readings assigned to individual students should also not be placed on reserve to allow full access to these items.
PERSONAL COPIES OF MATERIAL
- Personal copies of material can be put on reserve. Please bring personal copies to the Library i-Desk.
- These materials will receive some minimal processing (e.g. labels and barcodes). This material will be returned to you at the end of the quarter, or it can be retrieved whenever you no longer need the items on Reserve.
SPECIAL NOTE: Please submit your list to the library as soon as possible to enable the library staff to process reserve material by the start of the quarter.
