Stanford MBA Program

P4D Fellowship

The Charles P. Bonini Partnership for Diversity Fellowship Program

The Charles P. Bonini Partnership for Diversity (P4D) fellowship program is named for Charles P. Bonini, the William R. Timken Professor of Management Science, Emeritus, who was a guiding force behind a corporate fellowship for minority students during his six-year tenure as director of the MBA Program from 1987 through 1993.

Who May Apply

The Charles P. Bonini Partnership for Diversity Fellowship at the Stanford Graduate School of Business offers a unique educational and professional opportunity. Through the Partnership for Diversity Program, the Business School acts as a facilitator, helping our Corporate Partners achieve their diversity goals by providing fellowships to students who—by reason of their culture, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, background, work, and life experiences—are able to bring a unique cultural, personal, or professional perspective to both our Corporate Partners and the Business School.

Because of our shared strong belief in the value of diversity, the Corporate Partners and the School especially encourage applications from African Americans, Mexican Americans, Native Americans, and Puerto Ricans, as well as from others whose backgrounds and experience would provide additional dimensions to the P4D and GSB Programs.

Fellowship Requirements

Working in collaboration with sponsoring companies, the P4D places students who have been offered admission to the Stanford MBA Program in internships.

At the Corporate Partner's discretion, some P4D fellows will complete internships during the summer between first and second year of the MBA Program, while others may have to defer enrolling at the GSB for one year to complete an internship lasting nine to twelve months. Fellows are paid a competitive salary and standard benefits during the internship. Upon enrollment at the GSB, Fellows receive at least one year's full-tuition grant, with no obligation to return to the sponsoring company.

Companies and numbers of Fellows vary each year. Last year, Eli Lilly and Company sponsored one Bonini Fellow.

Application Process

The MBA Admissions Office and Corporate Partners work together to review the applications of admitted candidates and select a group of finalists. Decisions are based on criteria established by the Corporate Partners. In turn, the Corporate Partners select a subset of the candidates to interview. Corporate Partners make the final decision, and both the Corporate Partner and the Bonini Fellow are accorded the right of refusal.

Candidates who are selected for the final interviews but who are not chosen as Fellows will receive a cash award from the Corporate Partner to recognize your strong candidacy.

Internship Support

The Stanford Graduate School of Business will work closely with the Bonini Fellow and the Corporate Partner to create a meaningful and mutually rewarding experience. We will identify an individual at the company who will agree to act as a mentor, taking responsibility for the professional development of the Bonini Fellow. Senior Business School administrators will remain in contact with the firm’s leadership to monitor the success of the placement.

Application Requirements

  • P4D applicants must apply in either Round 1 or Round 2. The completed MBA Program application and the P4D applications must be submitted together prior to the appropriate application deadline.
  • Space is provided in the P4D Materials section of the online Application Form for all of the required application materials.
  • Please upload all application requirements as one document.
