While I think the article “Hands Across the Water” [May issue] was a fantastic article about the SMIF and GMIX internship programs, I am concerned that it sends an unintended message. While the five MBA students you interviewed are extraordinary people, I think profiling mostly international students sends an implicit message that Americans do not participate in these programs. In fact, of the 38 GMIX participants last summer, 28 of them were Americans. There is a rather unfair perspective in the press that American MBAs have a very introspective view on global business. This article undermined one of the big success stories of these programs, in that American students are embracing these international opportunities in great numbers.
