The Economic Road Back

The way out of the current economic crisis lies in America's gift for ingenuity and innovation – and more transparency in the financial sector. That was the consensus of six thought leaders, including Dean Garth Saloner and Penny Pritzker, MBA '85, gathered at Stanford's fourth annual Roundtable on Oct. 24. Titled The Road Back: From Economic Meltdown to Renewal, the event was moderated by Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist Charlie Rose. (details and video)
The Failure Mechanics of Dealer Banks
Prof. Darrel Duffie offers lessons from the financial crisis, and how banks that are major dealers in securities and derivatives can quickly unravel as their counterparts and customers rush for the exits. Duffie was honored with the 2009 Silver Apple Award for service to alumni. (Video)

Nearly 1,000 alumni and friends gathered in late October for fall Alumni Weekend events. The program included lectures and discussions as well as time to catch up with old friends at parties and events. Reunions and events for various classes are held three times each year on campus.
