Careers
GSB students with an interest in healthcare have a wide variety of internship and career alternatives available to them. Check out a series of short career profiles on students from the MBA class of 2011 to get a sense of the types of opportunities GSB graduates pursue in the healthcare field.
Networking
The student-run Health Care Club (HCC) is active in coordinating career-related networking events. For instance, in late Fall 2010, the HCC organized a “Health Care Career Spotlight” event to help first-year MBA students begin thinking about their summer internships and second-year MBA students get serious about their full-time job search. Five alums shared their insights about different healthcare careers:
- Joe Mandato – Managing Director, De Novo Ventures
- Vance Vanier (GSB 2006) – CEO, Navigenics
- Daniel Harfe (GSB 2002) – Marketing Director, Acclarent Medical
- Howie Rosen (GSB 1987) – Former VP, Commercial Strategy at Gilead Sciences, Inc.
- Jeffrey Bird (GSB 1992) – Managing Director, Sutter Hill Ventures
Plenty of time was allowed for questions and general networking. Approximately 60 students participated in the event.
Recruiting
In addition, the school’s Career Management Center provides GSB students with assistance in defining a career vision, developing an effective plan to realize that goal, and networking.
Major healthcare corporations and device, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical start-ups hire students from the GSB, along with consulting companies, investment banks, and venture capitalists with healthcare and life sciences practices. A list of some of these organizations is shown below.
