I Have a Dream (IHAD)
IHAD is a national organization that seeks to improve graduation rates, build college aspirations and help finance continued education for children growing up in low income and otherwise disadvantaged communities.
If you are looking for a club or activity that will allow you to get to know other GSBers as well as do something incredible, there is perhaps no better way than becoming involved with the I Have A Dream (IHAD) program.
The IHAD program at the GSB was started by members of the class of 1992 in an effort to increase the 28% graduation rate of students from the Ravenswood School District in neighboring East Palo Alto. The founders of the GSB IHAD program pledged to fund four-year college scholarships for a group of extraordinary 3rd and 4th graders at the Flood School in East Palo Alto. Every one of these "Dreamers" has now graduated from high school and most of them are in college working toward their degrees.
In 2001, the program started anew by adopting 60 first graders at Costaño Elementary School, also in East Palo Alto. The Dreamers are now in fifth grade, and the program has grown to have three full-time staff members working on-site.
IHAD is a terrific way to meet other classmates and 2nd years, while providing at-risk students with invaluable guidance and support.
