International Development (ID) Club

The International Development (ID) Club aims to help students learn more about international development and create opportunities for them to build their professional development in the field by accessing the extensive networks that we have both within and external to the GSB.

The ID Club:

  • Creates visibility and mobilizes interest in various sub-sectors of international development, including financing, private sector development, health, education, women's issues, and macroeconomics. The club will focus on these issues within the context of different regions, including Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
  • Provides general and career-focused information on international development.
  • Establishes a forum for GSB community interaction within itself and with the external community.

The ID Club works closely with the leadership and clubs of both the Public Management Program (PMP) and the Global Management Program (GMP). ID Club activities will integrate where possible the 2005-2006 Public Management Initiative (PMI) topic, Women in the Global Economy.

The ID Club's activities are organized around the club's main objectives of education, professional development, and community building.

  • Education: organize speakers, panels, debates and various forums for students to learn about current topics, theories, and applications in international development from each other, alumni, and professionals with experience in international development. These educational events (e.g. Net Impact, International Development Conference) will cover a range of audience needs ranging from speakers with deep subject matter expertise to speakers with wider crowd appeal.
  • Professional Development: provide opportunities for club members to gain experience through treks or by working in the field through the Board Fellows program and various group projects which will be passed down from year to year. On one side of the spectrum, the professional development activities will provide members with an opportunity to gain in-depth experience in a particular issue (e.g. 390s, Projects in International Development class). On the other side, these activities will provide members with insight into potential careers in international development, or ways to include international development issues as part of their broader career strategy (e.g. Board Fellows, GMIX)
  • Community Building: facilitate intra-club communication through email distribution, community-building events and activities (e.g. dinners, volunteer activities) as well as build and maintain club relationships with other GSB clubs, staff, faculty, departments (CMC, Student Life), Stanford undergrad ID groups, and Bay Area and other ID organizations.
