Service Learning Trips
Through Service Learning Trips, the Service Learning Program provides opportunities for Stanford Graduate School of Business students to explore and understand social and environmental issues in greater depth, develop personal bonds with one another and with entrepreneurial leaders around the world, and build their active involvement in and commitment to service.
Destinations for 2007 - 2008
- India, Winter 2007-2008: Students will meet with the leaders of organizations focused on the design, delivery, and the scaling of health services for India's underserved populations.
- Guatemala, Winter 2007-2008: Deepening Stanford's relationship with its Guatemalan partners, students will return to learn more about the coffee industry, focusing on fair trade, organic coffee cooperatives.
- South Africa, Spring 2008: Students will collaborate with leading social entrepreneurs to learn about innovative approaches to public education, the vestiges of apartheid, and leadership development.
- Thailand & Cambodia , Spring 2008: Students will again partner with Population and Community Development Association to address the issues of human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, and womens issues.
- New Orleans, Spring 2008: Continuing in partnership with The Idea Village students will engage entrepreneurs in discussions about their business models, successes, and challenges and have the opportunity to put theory into practice by providing strategic recommendations and advice.
Stanford's Graduate School of Business is committed to environmental responsibility and has purchased carbon offsets to assure that all travel in completion of the Global Experience Requirement is carbon neutral.

East Africa, Spring 2007: Students on this trip gained new insights into social entrepreneurship and microfinance, and had the opportunity to meet with organizations including Kiva, KickStart, Life in Africa, and TechnoServe.
New Orleans, Spring 2007: Students worked directly with the New Orleans-based nonprofit organization Idea Village to support a growing community of entrepreneurs who are contributing to the region's redevelopment.
Guatemala, Winter 2006-2007: Students met and worked with social entrepreneurs at two coffee cooperatives, helping in the coffee harvest and learning about the production of fair trade, organic coffee and its role in sustainable development.
Thailand & Cambodia, Winter 2006-2007: Students learned from leading social entrepreneurs in both countries and participated in service activities dealing with issues of HIV/AIDS and the sex trade as they relate to Thai and Khmer societies.
New Orleans, Spring 2006: Encouraged by donor concerns for this region, students responded to the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, assisting with disaster relief in the community.
Brazil, Spring 2006: In Rio, Porto Alegre and Salvador, students engaged with social entrepreneurs who address issues as varied as rural development, clean energy, and computer literacy.
