Nicholas Eubank

I study ethnicity and political accountability from a comparative perspective. The main paper of my dissertation, "Social Networks and the Political Salience of Ethnicity," provides a model of how new sources of data (and in particular "big data") on the day-to-day interactions of citizens can be leveraged to rigorously answer questions about social organization, ethnicity, and political outcomes. My broader research agenda also touches on revenue bargaining and accountability in Somaliland, ethnicity and public goods in Pakistan, and elite strategies for circumventing electoral mechanisms of political accountability.
