Global Supply Chain Management Forum

Member Benefits

Stanford invites companies to become partners of the Forum. To become a "Forum member" an annual investment of $35,000 is required; it is used primarily for advancing Supply Chain activities for our members in the following ways:

  • We hold five one-day workshops a year, with each event focusing on special topics (e.g., managing a global enterprise, information systems, RFID, Outsourcing and Off-shoring, Globalization, etc.). Member companies can send up to five individuals at no charge to each workshop. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments are provided. Generally the workshops consists of 1) member companies contributing special projects or experiences on the focused topic, 2) industry leaders who have special expertise on the subject and 3) Stanford faculty and/or students reporting on the latest research related to the focused topic. Each workshop attendee receives printed proceedings and member company liaisons not able to participate or attend receive the proceedings through the mail.
  • We hold a two-day symposium on major developments of supply chain management annually.
  • We print a Supply Chain Newsletter quarterly for distribution to members only. The newsletter reports on the activities of the Forum, synthesizes key research findings by faculty and students, and describes latest trends and developments.
  • Each year, we have Master students working on supply chain projects as part of their course requirements in the supply chain management course. Essentially, the students do projects for our member companies at no charge. The projects are well-defined in scope and they address a variety of supply chain management problems.
  • Member companies have access to our research reports (there are many research projects conducted by faculty and Ph.D. students on supply chain management), as well as special case studies that we do for teaching purposes. Part of the annual membership investment is used to support "seed research projects" and case developments. These cases are often directly related to member companies.
  • We work with member companies to place students for summer interns, as well as defining potential dissertation topics of research problems based on member inputs.

Our member companies have found that, by being a part of this community, they are associated with the leading thinkers and practitioners of supply chain management. Companies have also formed networks of their own, and we facilitate some benchmarking and exchanges themselves. The professional networking of supply chain experts is considered a value provided by the Forum.
