They hold the analytical skills they learned in their liberal arts and science classes, but they lack the fundamental business skills that are required in every organization. Our ProgramThe Summer Institute for General Management provides college students and recent graduates with the skills they need to launch a successful career in any given field. Our participants spend four weeks on the Stanford campus and attend classes taught by the same distinguished faculty that teach in Stanford's world-renowned MBA program attend guest lectures by representatives from leading companies in the Bay Area participate in professional development activities, such as interviewing/public speaking workshops, career counseling, and resume reviews. Who Are We Looking For?Juniors, seniors, and recent graduates who did not major in business are eligible to apply. Summer Institute past participants have had the following backgrounds: 47% Social Sciences 26% Humanities 16% Engineering Sciences 11% Natural and Life Sciences 18% Students with multiple majors Professional DevelopmentOur participants have access to the same career coaching as Stanford MBA students! The Management Communication Program (MCP) staff hosts workshops and facilitates one-on-one meetings with participants on a variety of topics, such as interviewing techniques and public speaking. view site The Career Management Center (CMC) staff hosts sessions on resume writing, clarifying career goals, and job searching. Students also receive a one-on-one resume consultation. view site AcademicsUnlike many other business preparation programs in which there is a focus on just one, or only a few, topic areas, the Summer Institute for General Management curriculum covers eight functional areas of business.
