Field of Study: The molecular biology of potential congestive heart failure therapeutics
Stanford University’s Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
Why were you interested in participating in the SIE?
To be exposed to one of the world’s premier business school faculties and gain insights into the requirements for a successful Silicon Valley venture.
Were your expectations for the program met?
Met and exceeded. I can honestly say that this program was the most exceptional educational experience I have ever had.
What are you doing now?
I am currently completing my Cardiology fellowship and post-doctoral research program.
How will your experience in the SIE help you in future endeavors?
I believe the skills acquired in this program will benefit its participants greatly in the future. Whether the participant intends to focus on non-profit work, ‘green’ technology, or a biopharmaceutical start-up, the SIE provides the ‘mild-wide’ overview of everything required to accomplish these goals, and the contacts to see them through to fruition. From writing a business plan, to an introduction to finance and economics, to game theory and strategy, and finally to the venture capital pitch, this course entails the basics of all entrepreneurial skills and how to learn more when needed. I don’t believe that a single classmate was disappointed.
In your opinion, what was the most valuable aspect of the SIE?
The great success of this program is the translation from theory and principle - which is taught by an unbelievable faculty- to the applied practice - where students are exposed to venture capitalists and numerous local start-up executives and are given a chance to ‘make their pitch’. Working on real projects, many of which continue to become actual companies, moves the case studies, lectures and readings beyond the abstract into functional entrepreneurial experiences. From start to finish, the program was fantastic! |
