Why were you interested in participating in the SIE?
I was interested in attending SIE because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be an Academic. So I wanted to acquire skills that are useful for other career options. I also really enjoy mixing disciplines and this was the perfect opportunity to learn about mixing science and business.
Were your expectations for the program met?
My expectations for the program were exceeded. The Faculty, staff, and other class participants were a pleasure to meet and learn from. I think fondly of my time spent at the GSB, and highly recommend this course.
What are you doing now?
Currently I am writing up my PhD. Following this I have a job offer (as a consequence of attending SIE) to work for the University commercializing its research. However, SIE sparked the craving to work as part of a start-up so I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities. In addition, our SIE Group Project may also turn into a business.
How will your experience in the SIE help you in future endeavors?
The experience has given me the conviction to pursue a career that merges science and business. From this course I came to better appreciate that the skills acquired throughout my PhD are very useful in the business realm. I now have the confidence to approach people in the business arena and get involved in creating change.
In your opinion, what was the most valuable aspect of the SIE?
Attending SIE taught me that business can be really fun and inventive. Now when I am with friends I often get out pen and paper and initiate brain-storming sessions for potential business ventures. SIE taught me that business can be like a game. |
