AcademicsWhat courses are included in the SIGM curriculum?
The SIGM core curriculum covers nine functional areas of business, including: Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations, Strategy, Human Resources, Marketing and Non-Profit. Additional course modules supplement the core curriculum: Negotiation, Ethics, Organizational Behavior and Leadership. The curriculum requires no previous coursework in any business-related subjects.
How is the program organized?
A typical day starts with 2 hour-long classes in the morning. After lunch, there are usually 2 additional classes, followed by professional development workshops and guest speakers from Bay Area companies. Optional group activities are planned for Saturdays and Sundays.
Do SIGM participants receive grades or course credit?
The SIGM program does not offer participants academic credit or grades. Participants successfully complete the program by attending all classes, completing their assignments and group projects and engaging with their fellow participants in community building exercises. Upon completion of the program, participants will be awarded a certificate endorsed by the dean and faculty directors.
How much work is done outside of class?
Participants spend approximately two to three hours a day outside of class on homework and studying. Additional time is spent working in study groups and on group projects.
Will I have free time for to work or manage other projects during the program?
No. SIGM requires all participants make a full-time commitment for the duration of the program. Participants are expected to actively collaborate with their study groups outside of class. Additionally, the final project requires active contributions from all participants.
