General
What will I gain from participating in the Summer Institute for General Management?
SIGM participants receive the academic instruction, professional guidance and leadership training essential for making an immediate impact in the workplace. Participants also take advantage of opportunities to meet with industry leaders in our guest speaker series.
Will participating in SIGM help me get into Stanford's MBA program?
While the program will provide participants with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of business and what to expect from an MBA education, SIGM participants do not receive any favored status when applying for Stanford's MBA program.
Are Economics majors eligible to participate in the program?
Yes, we accept Economics majors from schools in the liberal arts and sciences.
Should I attend SIGM to prepare for an MBA program?
The SIGM program curriculum provides an overview of business and management fundamentals based upon Stanford's MBA program. Participants are taught by the same faculty as the MBA students, work in study groups for assignments, and make a final MBA-style presentation to classmates. They also have access to the same career development staff and academic facilities as the MBA students.
SIGM participants may feel better prepared to pursue an MBA after attending the Summer Institute, but a full MBA program cannot be replicated across four weeks.
How much does the program cost? What does my tuition cover?
The tuition fee for the 2009 program is $10,000 USD. The tuition fee will cover all class fees, housing, meals, course materials, professional development workshops, guest speakers, extracurricular weekend excursions and events.
