Elective Courses

This is is a valuable opportunity to tailor your academic experience to meet your personal career needs. You may choose up to five elective courses during your time at Stanford Graduate School of Business, selecting from approximately 100 courses based on leading-edge faculty research.

Our faculty bring their research into the classroom, where students have access to the latest ideas before they impact society at large. Our faculty includes three Nobel Laureates, three members of the National Academy of Science, seven members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and two recipients of the John Bates Clark Medal in economics.

The GSB faculty are known throughout the academic world for their role in developing information economics and game theory, topics which today form the heart of core courses in economics, strategy, and human resource management. Faculty are also widely respected for their contribution to the practices of management. Finance professor James Van Horne's textbooks are widely used to teach financial management. Charles Horngren pioneered modern management accounting, and William Beaver's texts in accounting are mainstays of the profession. Organizational behavior professors Charles O'Reilly and Jeffrey Pfeffer have had a profound influence on managers and business leaders through the ideas expressed in many well-respected publications.
