Letter to Sponsoring Organizations

The Stanford Sloan Master’s Program is an executive degree program at the Stanford Business School. It is a full-time, 10.5-month residential program for 56 mid-career professionals with at least 10 years of experience.

Our Stanford Sloan Master’s Program awards a Master of Science degree to high potential mid-career executives from many of the leading companies around the world. It is truly an exceptional development program for some of the most promising young managers in your company.

I hope you agree that developing the next generation of leaders is critical for the long-term success of your organization. The Stanford Sloan Master’s Program can be the perfect program for a select few who are clearly the rising stars in your organization.

It is true that the Stanford Sloan Master’s Program is an expensive proposition. Recognizing certain people individually for a special investment in their careers can be a sensitive issue in a large organization. Nonetheless, there are always a few that are worth that investment. Often they are managers who are unique in some way; examples may include the very highest potential women executives and/or highly specialized technical people who need a broader skill set. For these people and other talented managers, an investment in the Sloan Program can reap huge rewards in speeding up their readiness for critical management roles.

Sponsorship often includes tuition (full or partial), salary, and living expenses. Some firms support the Fellow fully; others may offer medical insurance and a forgivable loan for tuition. Each firm develops a set of guidelines that is appropriate and reasonable for that firm. I am happy to discuss with you the many ways that sponsorship can be structured.

Since the first graduating class of 1958, Stanford Sloan Fellows have had far reaching influence on financial institutions, Global 1000 companies, and family-owned businesses in many countries of the world. Among our most distinguished alumni are the CEO and chairman of Kimberly-Clark Corporation, director of London School of Economics, former chairman and CEO of Pfizer Incorporated, former president and CEO of The Boeing Company, managing director of KKR, and CEO of Lenovo. Recent sponsors who have invested in their promising managers include Nike, BP, Dell, Techint, the Hong Kong and Singapore governments, Google, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Dresdner Kleinwort.

I urge you to identify and to invest in an emerging leader in your organization. Stanford offers a challenging and rewarding experience for Sloan Fellows who return to their firms with a broadened global perspective and the spirit of innovation.

Sincerely,

Marie M. Mookini, PhD
