Letter to the Sponsoring Organization
from Dr. Bruce McKern, Director
Stanford Sloan Master's Program
The faculty and staff of the Stanford Sloan Master's Program wish to work in partnership with sponsoring organizations to help educate and develop talented mid-career managers for future leadership.
The Sloan Program is designed to provide a challenging academic curriculum and related activities to prepare Sloan Fellows for greater responsibility than might be achieved solely by on-the-job assignments.
Sending a valuable executive to the program is a major commitment for a sponsoring organization. Sponsors should select applicants with great care, making this investment only in individuals who have a very successful career to date and who have the potential to grow into a top management position. An applicant should also have the capacity and curiosity to take advantage of this rare educational opportunity. In our admissions process we assess these characteristics and how the applicant will contribute to the total learning experience of his or her peers.
When a Sloan Fellow completes the program and returns to your organization, he or she will be equipped with stronger functional capabilities, a broader perspective, and augmented leadership skills. It is very important that the sponsoring organization create a challenging reentry job assignment that meets the realistic expectations of both the participant and the sponsor.
As director of the Sloan Program and a faculty member, I welcome the opportunity to discuss how the Sloan Program can be part of your executive development strategy. We can help you evaluate how this program can meet the development needs of a specific manager, and we can discuss what kind of reentry assignment would be most likely to capitalize on the participant's learning at Stanford. Please feel welcome to contact me at anytime.
