Russ Hagey, MBA ’86
Russ Hagey is a senior partner and worldwide chief talent officer of Bain & Company. He joined the firm in 1982 and has served in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, Zurich, and Amsterdam offices.
While at Bain, Russ has worked in medical devices and healthcare services as well as consumer products, retail, and wholesale trade and distribution. He continues to work with clients on corporate strategies, growth initiatives, new product development, acquisitions, sales force, and distribution issues. His work has spanned large corporate entities in addition to venture and private equity-backed ownership stakes.
In his talent role, he oversees the firm’s recruiting, professional development, training, and human resources functions for over 6,500 global staff in now 53 worldwide offices. Bain earned the distinction of being the “#1 best firm to work for” for 11 years in a row as ranked by Consulting Magazine and has continued to receive top rankings across multiple publications. Russ has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 10 Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs).
Prior to joining Bain, Russ worked as a product manager with ROLM Corporation. He is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles, where he received a BA in economics and was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
In 2007, Russ was named one of the industry’s Top 25 Consultants by Consulting Magazine in its annual industry survey. Russ has also led nonprofit efforts for Bain’s Los Angeles office, where he formerly served as the office’s managing director for over 10 years. He now serves on the boards of directors for LA’s BEST (a nationally recognized after-school program for children 5-12), chair for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and on the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games. He is also a member of the Stanford GSB Advisory Council.
