LearnUp is a nonprofit literacy center based in San Francisco on a mission to teach all levels and types of children to learn to read. LearnUp teaches struggling readers, with or without a diagnosis of dyslexia, to read at grade level and beyond – in about half the time of most other programs.
How might we assess the feasibility and pricing of LearnUp’s pilot global online tutor training as a new potential service offering?
The current pandemic has resulted in shifts in the operating model for LearnUp. The organization was previously an in-person literacy nonprofit focused on the local San Francisco based community. Currently, these core locally based services have shifted to online delivery. In addition, LearnUp recently completed a more expansive pilot online tutor training session that had more interest than expected - over 1,000 tutors from around the world signed up and were enthusiastic about their lessons. LearnUp needs to determine how to resource, price, and prioritize this new online service offering.
LearnUp would like an ACT team to evaluate the feasibility of their pilot global online tutor training as a new potential service offering. As part of this analysis, the ACT team will advise on an appropriate tiered pricing structure for online tutor training (national vs international, full tuition vs sliding scale for economically disadvantaged and/or scholarship students/educators). Ultimately, LearnUp would like a recommendation on the best approach to providing online tutoring and tutor/educator training – and the resources, pricing, and staffing needed to be set up for success.
